We have been a PostgreSQL shop since our creation in 2005 and are currently looking for additional full time PostgreSQL talent to join our team. If you are a seasoned DBA with extensive PostgreSQL experience we would like to talk to you about opportunities at Etsy. Our offices are currently located in Brooklyn, NY however remote workers are welcome if they are up to the challenge.

Position Summary:

• Minimum five years experience working with production database systems for e-commerce sites, with at least two years working with PostgreSQL. Experience in other major database systems a must (MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle)
• Knowledge of the Linux operating system as it pertains to the administration of the PostgreSQL database system.
• Install, tune and monitor PostgreSQL database instances;
• Experience with large scale, high performance, high transaction volume, fault-tolerant database architectures and all of the challenges that revolve around building and maintaining schema and data in that type of environment.
• The ability to assist application teams with the most effective way to design schema for application features as well as participating in the architecture phase of application development.
• Expert in sourcing of SQL Code into a code repository and rolling that code into a DEV/QA/PROD environment.
• Experience with monitoring database installations and performance and the usage of monitoring tools to assist in this challenge.
• Deep experience writing stored procedures in PL/PGSQL (other embedded query languages a plus)
• Excellent knowledge of the various types of indexes that PG provides and their practical applications. Also tuning of those indexes as a part of ongoing maintenance.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL backup and restore and replication solutions.
• Experience with contrib modules in PostgreSQL such as tsearch2.
• Assist in monitoring of 24x7 production systems as part of the operations team.
• Familiarity with “scale-out” concepts where it pertains to database implementations.
• Proactive in recommending updates and improvements to existing systems.
• Experience with PostgreSQL installations on a SAN solution is a nice to have.
• Self starter, willing to take on and own large and small challenges.
• Proven ability to work independently or in a team environment
